U.S. Marshals Task Force, NMSP Fugitive Apprehension Unit Arrest Fleeing Armed Fugitive

LAS CRUCES — On April 9, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Mexico – Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) and the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) apprehended Jefferey Goebel, who was wanted on a Federal Probation Violation in the District of New Mexico. Goebel has a lengthy criminal history which includes a conviction for Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

On the afternoon of April 9, 2026, Goebel was located and apprehended on the 800 block of Foster Rd in Las Cruces, NM by USMS-SWIFT and NMSP-FAU.

USMS-SWIFT observed and identified Goebel driving erratically in a black Mercedes Benz near S. Triviz Drive and Missouri Avenue. Goebel was later observed walking north on Durazno Dr. NMSP-FAU officers made initial contact with Goebel, who immediately fled and a foot pursuit ensued. While attempting to flee, Goebel fell to the ground and law enforcement observed a firearm fall from Goebel’s waistband. Goebel was apprehended on the 800 block of Foster and the firearm was recovered by law enforcement. The firearm was identified as a Taurus, 9mm, semi-automatic handgun which had an extended magazine containing 29, 9mm rounds in total. Goebel also had drug paraphernalia and a digital scale on his person.

Shortly thereafter, NMSP-FAU located the black Mercedes Benz Goebel was driving and obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. During the execution of the search warrant, NMSP-FAU located a loaded .300 caliber Blackout assault rifle with 11 rounds, and approximately 12.3 grams of Methamphetamine, along with other various paraphernalia.

Goebel was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center without Bond.
