NMDOT: U.S. 84 Closed In Both Directions At Rio del Oso Bridge … Detour In Place, Expect Delays

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has closed U.S. 84 in both directions at the bridge over the Rio del Oso until further notice.

This afternoon an NMDOT inspector discovered damage that compromised the integrity of the bridge. It is NMDOT’s understanding that the damage was caused by the contractor during repair construction.

NMDOT staff is on site evaluating the bridge and the extent of damage. A detour is in place and signage is posted. Message boards are being placed along the detour routes to guide motorists through detours below.

Motorists should expect a significant delay and detour. NMDOT is working to establish an estimated timeline for the closure.

Northbound motorists will be diverted onto northbound U.S. 285 where they will connect with northbound N.M. 111. They will follow this roadway to where it connects to N.M. 554 and then be detoured onto this road to U.S. 84 in Abiquiu.

Southbound motorists will detour in the opposite direction. They will be diverted onto N.M. 554 northbound to N.M 111 and will then follow this roadway to where it connects with U.S. 285. From there they will take southbound U.S. 285 to Española.
