LANL News:
Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Group and the Quality and Performance Assurance Division received 2014 Performance Excellence Recognition awards from Quality New Mexico and will be recognized at QNM’s annual learning summit and awards ceremony April 7-8 in Albuquerque.
“These organizations are striving for world-class excellence and providing the best service to their customers,” said Quality New Mexico Executive Director Julia Gabaldon. “We are very proud of them and I encourage organizations in every sector to follow their lead.”
The Material Control and Accountability program at Los Alamos provides graded levels of control for accountable nuclear material and special nuclear material based on material type, quantity and form. The program also seeks to deter and detect theft or diversion of accountable material.
“The award validates the progress we have made and reinforces our path forward,” said Michael Kaufman, Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Group Leader.
The Quality and Performance Assurance Division is responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of the Lab’s quality assurance and contractor assurance programs that are part of the contract between Los Alamos National Security, LLC, the National Nuclear Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy. This also is the second consecutive year that QPA Division has received Piñon Recognition from Quality New Mexico.
“Participation in the Quality New Mexico program and the feedback received during this process is extremely valuable in supporting the division’s pursuit of excellence and will better position the division to support the Laboratory in meeting its mission and to drive increased customer satisfaction,” said Ernie Petru, Los Alamos’ Quality and Performance Assurance Division Leader.
Performance Excellence signifies that organizations have demonstrated development and use of systematic processes as a foundation for analysis and improvement to attain improved organizational outcomes, according to Quality New Mexico’s webpage (www.qualitynewmexico.org).
The Laboratory and its support service contractors have received 33 Piñon and Roadrunner recognitions from Quality New Mexico since 1997. The Laboratory is an Executive Ring sponsor of the learning summit and awards ceremony. For more than a decade, Los Alamos staff members have served as examiners who review applications submitted to QNM. Laboratory staff members also have been judges, editors and loaned executives to Quality New Mexico.
