‘Tweens to Teens’ Offered Tuesday

FSN News:

“Tweens to Teens” for girls ages 9-13 and their moms or another female adult, will be offered 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Family Strengths Network.

How will you talk to your girl about puberty? Although the topic can make kids squirm, this workshop uses games and activities to foster fun, supportive discussion. The group will review the biology of puberty, including what physical and emotional changes girls can expect and how to deal with them. The group will also learn about feminine hygiene products.

As kids enter adolescence, communication patterns may also change. Workshop participants will work on how to maintain open communication and shared values. Families will leave with the book The Care and Keeping of You.

Facilitator Felicia Branch, RN, is the Los Alamos County public health nurse and she will be joined by Jennifer Bartram, who has been helping teens and parents communicate for 16 years.

Now thanks to a generous contribution from the LANL Foundation, all families will leave with not only the book, but a complete toiletry kit.

A $35 registration fee includes all these goodies and a pizza dinner, too.

If you have been wondering how you will approach this important time in a girl’s life, Family Strengths Network encourages you to be proactive and utilize this community resource to strengthen your family. Both of you will be surprised at how much fun you’ll have.
