Trick-Or-Treat On MainStreet Kicks Off Halloweekend With Festivities 4-6 p.m. Friday

Los Alamos MainStreet News:

Halloweekend returns to haunt Los Alamos Oct. 26-27, with Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet kicking off festivities 4-6 p.m. Friday.

Main Street and Central Avenue from 15th to 20th streets will be closed to auto traffic and become a safe pedestrian area where local businesses and organizations distribute candy to costumed families.

While businesses in the downtown area open their doors to the public, this also is an opportunity for businesses and organizations not located in the downtown area to be involved. This year, 85 businesses and organizations will be handing out candy during Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet.

Friday, Oct. 26 activities also include Trick-or-Treating 3-5 p.m. at Los Alamos Medical Center and Los Alamos National Bank, a performance at 4:30 p.m. by High Flyers and at 5 p.m. by Dance Arts Los Alamos, followed at 5:30 p.m. by the Pet Costume Parade marching down Central Avenue.

This year’s Pet Costume Parade is organized by Los Alamos High School DECA Club students Katie Herrmann and Troi Lewis, with suggested donations benefitting the Los Alamos Animal Shelter. No sign-up is required in advance, but participants should gather at 5 p.m. at the elephant statue by Ashley Pond Park for check-in. Judges from Los Alamos High School, Doghouse PhD and the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos will award the winning pets with prizes sponsored by Pet Pangaea.

Stop by the Bradbury Science Museum 4-6 p.m., for High Tech Halloween and the YMCA 5-7 p.m. for the Costume Climb.

Halloweekend festivities continue Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning 10 a.m. to noon with the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) Pumpkin Carving at Smith’s Marketplace. The Masquerade Recital is 5-6 p.m. at Fuller Lodge and the LAAC hosted annual Pumpkin Glow is 6-9 p.m. on the lawn at Fuller Lodge. Los Alamos MainStreet welcomes Eddy & The Nomads, who will provide live entertainment 6:30-9 p.m. inside Fuller Lodge.

The Los Alamos Arts Council also is sponsoring the annual Scarecrow Contest along MainStreet in the Creative District. Winners, including a new “Fan Favorite” category, will be announced Nov. 1. The public can vote for a “Fan Favorite” in the Los Alamos Visitor Center through Oct. 31.
