Traffic Alert: Water Line Break At 34th North Of Villa

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities water crews are responding to a water line break at 9:30 a.m. today on 34th Street north of Villa.

The road is closed at the repair site and traffic is detoured on to 33rd Street.

DPU customers on 34th Street may experience low water pressure.

Depending on the severity of the break, water services to these customer may need to be terminated.  The estimated time of repairs is 4 p.m. today.

If water services are terminated, DPU offers the following considerations for customers when their water is restored:

  • At first water may appear murky due to entrained air. This problem will resolve itself in a day or so.
  • For a day or two there may be a small amount of sediment or rust in the water that has been stirred up from the bottom of the water main.  While aesthetically unpleasant, it does not pose a health risk.
  • Flushing plumbing lines can help clear up the water sooner. DPU advises that cold water taps be used for flushing. This saves energy and also prevents stirring up sediment in the hot water heater tank.

If water quality problems persist for more than two days, contact DPU 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 505.662.8333 or send an email to CustomerCare@lacnm.us.
