The annual Christmas Sale at the Shop on the Corner Thrift Store is a decades-old tradition. For more than 40 years, the shop has offered a special sale featuring holiday items and gifts on the first Wednesday in December.

This year’s sale will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3. Shop on the Corner is in the Old Parish Hall on the lower level of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church on Canyon Road by the corner of Diamond Drive.

Shop on the Corner volunteers have been preparing for the Christmas Sale all year, setting aside hundreds of new and gently used items including holiday decorations, gifts, jewelry, toys and books, china and glassware and festive clothing.

“Shopping at the annual Christmas Sale spreads good all around,” said Shop on the Corner Board Member Mari Mahler. “Shoppers get great bargains to fill their Christmas lists and decorate their homes, and the money is used to benefit hundreds of individuals.”

Proceeds from Shop on the Corner are distributed mainly to local and regional charities, to help feed, shelter and clothe individuals. The 2013 grants included Los Alamos Self Help and LA Cares in Los Alamos; St. James Food Pantry in Taos; Esperanza Shelter, Bienvenidos Shelter, and Interfaith Shelter in Santa Fe, Northern New Mexico Crisis Center and Backpack Ministry in Espanola; and The Storehouse and Albuquerque Rescue Mission in Albuquerque. Shop on the Corner also helps support the House of Hope Women and Trinity Builders teams from Los Alamos, to construct homes for the needy in Juarez, Mexico.
