SPORTS News:

Saturday’s hockey game in Los Alamos featured the Taos Ice Tigers and the Toppers. These two teams have been heated rivals as long as they have been playing each other and each game is very physical and exciting no matter the outcome.

Saturday’s match was no exception. The Ice Tigers pretty much controlled the first period, scoring once and out shooting the Toppers 10-2. The second period saw a spark of life in the toppers as they evened the scoring at 3-3, but still only had 25 shots to Taos’s 11.

Hilltopper Jake Rutten completed a short handed goal in the 2:48 minute, Ray Guffee in the 13:42 minute and again in the 16:44 minute. As the third period started Jared Carnes scored in the 1:36 minute, which started a scoring streak. Rutten followed at the 7:48 minute, then Jacob Dunwoody in the 7:56 minute and John Charles in the 16:47 minute to bring the score to 7-3 Toppers.

The Ice Tigers scored in the closing minutes of the contest to bring the final to 7-4 Los Alamos.
