Tonight’s Public Hearing Venue on Satch Cowan Nature Trail Changed to Fuller Lodge

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County is considering a citizen petition to name or rename the Quemazon Nature Trail to the “Satch Cowan Nature Trail” after Helen “Satch” Cowan.

Or, the County may name one of the newly created/expanded trails in the Nature Trail Complex as the ‘Satch Cowan Canyon Rim Trail.”

Under County Code, a public hearing must be held prior to naming or renaming any County facility – or in this case, a trail – after a deceased individual.

Members of the public are invited to attend a public hearing about this matter at 5:30 p.m. today at Fuller Lodge.

During the hearing, the public may speak for or against the name change or new naming of a trail for Satch Cowan.

Those unable to attend the public hearing may submit written comments to the County’s Public Information Officer in advance at julie.habiger@lacnm.us, or drop them off at the County Administration office at 133 Central Park Square.

Comments must be received before 5 p.m. today.

An impartial committee will consider this request at the public hearing, take public comment, and then vote upon recommendations to forward to the Council for further consideration at the Council meeting on June 26.
