This Friday, we will be opening The Wolf of Wall St. and Her.
Her, stars Joaquin Phoenix, whose character falls in love with his computer’s highly advanced operating system played by Scarlett Johansson.
This film, written and directed by Spike Jonze, is clearly pushing the envelope in this original adult comedy. Phoenix has been nominated again this year for the upcoming Golden Globes Awards and is on the short list for an Academy nomination.
He won the Globes in 2005 for his brilliant performance as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. I look forward to his being toward the front of the pack again this year, but he does have some stiff competition from some other great actors.
Originally, we did not make the cut on this film but since we’ve been pushing these alternative, thought-provoking films and you patrons have been coming out to see them, the studios are beginning to take a closer look at us. It only took 11 years!
Among our top choices this week was Lone Survivor, but we didn’t make the cut but it is on our A list so no need to go off the hill to see it. We’re bringing it.
We will be holding Frozen, and American Hustle for another week.
Coming attractions include: Philomena, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, LEGO, The Monuments Men, Nebraska, Lone Survivor, and Labor Day.
The Golden Globe Awards will be aired Sunday evening, Jan. 12. Don’t forget, if it’s your birthday, the movie of your choice is free!
January is shaping up to be a great month for the movies. I hope to see you there. See the full schedule and show times at www.reeldealtheater.com.
