This Week at the Reel Deal

This Friday, the Reel Deal will open The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. The top critics are rating it at 100 percent. It was shot in New Zealand and the amazing cinematography takes full advantage of the islands beauty. It will be really busy opening weekend so come early. The run time is 2:41 hours, so we will not have a late show. Our latest show is at 7:30 p.m. every day.

The theater is holding Frozen, Hunger Games, and Out of the Furnace.

I saw Out of the Furnace the other night and enjoyed it. If you like “feel good” movies, maybe this is not for you, but there is something to be said for retribution. The performance by Woody Harrelson was downright scary and the performances by Christian Bale and Casey Affleck were so good it was hard to tell which of the three actors was the lead.

Forest Whitaker was convincing as always, and Zoe Saldana, who was a respite from the grittiness, did a great job, but seemed a little out of place in a small steel mill town. This film is not for everyone but I will see it again before it leaves. If you go, don’t take the kids.

Christmas is around the corner, and over the holidays the Reel Deal will be running, The Hobbit, Anchorman2, Saving Mr. Banks, and Walking with Dinosaurs.

In January, there are many great films including, The Wolf of Wall Street, 40 Ronin, American Hustle, Hercules, and Jack Ryan. I will keep you posted on those in the next couple of weeks, It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting The Book Thief until after the holidays.
