COMMUNITY News:

The community is invited to attend a performance of a 60-minute play titled, “The Wrong Side of the Door” written and directed by Chamisa Elementary School 6th grade teacher Cindy Richard.

Four local kids star in the show, which opens Monday:

  • Logan Capon plays Mason;
  • Emma Raven plays Izzy;
  • Ryan Rushton plays Will; and
  • Caleb Langenbrunner plays Alan.

All of the children are 5th and 6th graders at Chamisa Elementary. Admission is free.

In “The Wrong Side of the Door,” a phrase gleaned from the essay “The Weight of Glory” by C.S. Lewis, the play stars Mason, a young boy trying to enjoy a week at summer camp with his friends (brothers Alan and Will,) but still working through the grief of losing his sister Izzy to a bicycling accident two months earlier.

Everyone is shocked when Izzy herself joins them on a mission from Heaven, although no one – including Izzy – can ascertain what that mission might be. It isn’t until a friend’s life is at stake that Izzy finally understands the purpose of her visit … and Mason learns what so many of us struggle to accept – that there is still life to be lived with purpose and courage until the day we can be reunited with our lost loved ones on the right side of the door.

Three local performances are scheduled:

  • Monday Oct. 26, 7-8 p.m. at Chamisa Elementary, 301 Meadow Lane in White Rock;
  • Tuesday Oct. 27, 7-8 p.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr. in Los Alamos; and
  • Thursday Oct. 29, 7-8 p.m. at LDS church in White Rock at 366 Grand Canyon in White Rock.
