ESPAÑOLA—The Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) is proud to announce the list of grant recipients for 2023, recognizing the hard work of 14 local organizations in supporting and promoting the cultural and heritage of Northern New Mexico’s unique communities.
These organizations have demonstrated exceptional dedication and vision for preserving the unique culture and heritage of the area, and their efforts are now being rewarded a combined $100,000 through the National Park Service funded NRGNHA grant program.
This year’s grant awardees include:
- City of Española;
- Chimayo Cultural Preservation;
- JJL Artes LLC;
- MAS Comunidad & Penasco Theater;
- Museum of New Mexico;
- Northern Youth Project;
- Pueblo of Pojoaque;
- Santa Fe Indigenous Center;
- Taos Community Historical Society;
- Truchas Service Center;
- Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association;
- Santa Fe Fiestas, Inc.;
- Taos Center for the Arts; and
- Indigenous Ways.
These organizations support cultural revitalization activities through instruction, educational classes, special community-wide events, historical documentation, and ensure the youth are learning and upholding northern New Mexico traditions originating from the diverse people in the region.
The NRGNHA grant program was developed to help ensure that the heritage and culture of the Northern Rio Grande continue to thrive for many years to come. Grant applications were received and selected in fall 2022, with final contracts being negotiated and signed effective Jan. 1, 2023. NRGNHA focuses on sustaining the communities, cultures, and traditions within the counties of Santa Fe, Taos, and Rio Arriba and includes the Eight Northern Pueblos, the Jicarilla Apache Nation and the Cities of Santa Fe, Espanola, and the Town of Taos.
