Gregory Barthell has done massage for many years. When he retired from the Los Alamos County Parks Department, he decided to make it a career.

Barthell graduated from The New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in 2012, with diplomas in both therapeutic massage and polarity therapy. After passing the National Board examination for bodywork, Barthell received his Massage Therapy License from the state of New Mexico. He then opened his practice, Sunrise Therapeutics, in Los Alamos.

Polarity therapy is designed to clear energy blockages in the body through manual manipulation, as well as diet and exercise. Polarity therapy seeks to bridge the full spectrum of body, mind and spirit, Barthell said.

“Polarity therapy corrects imbalances in the energy fields associated with our bodies,” he said. “Combining massage and polarity therapy gets amazing results. Most of my clients report that the effects last as long as a week, much longer than they’ve experienced with massage before.”

Barthell mixes polarity therapy with therapeutic massage, which is the manual manipulation of soft tissues through a variety of techniques including deep tissue, or Swedish massage.

Barthell’s clients appreciate his caring attitude and his combination of strength and gentleness.

“Greg has a great intuitive sense for just what your body needs,” one client said. “It feels great at the time, but that’s not the best part. I feel better all the time since I started my sessions with Greg.”

Barthell is a third generation Los Alamos resident. His grandfather came to town in 1942. Barthell served as a medic in the Air Force, which gives him extra insight into the workings of the human body. If a client wishes, he will coordinate treatment with their doctor, physical therapist or other health care professional.

Barthell offers 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions. For best results, he recommends regular sessions, at least once per month.

Barthell finds joy in improving the health and well-being of his clients.

“My goal is to help people eliminate pain and stress in their lives,” he said.

Sunrise Therapeutics is in the Small Business Center in downtown Los Alamos. Call 505-661-4835 or email gbarthell2@gmail.com for more information.
