Examine your life, Purge the excess, Bless others … April 18 there is a communiy-wide event … The Great Givaway.

This is an opportunity to examine your life, purge the excess, and bless others who are in need. Inspired by Jen Hatmaker’s book “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess,” this started as a way to look at our lives for what is truly extra and to give to those who are in need in our community.

The point is for you to go through your house – clothes, books, kitchen, garage, kids’ rooms – identify the excess, and give it away. We will accept anything in usable condition. 

Giveaway Date: April 18, 2015
Location: White Rock Baptist Church, State Road 4
Donation Drop Off Dates: 

• Saturday, April 4 … 3-4 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 15  … 5:30-6:30 p.m. (text 709-8677 to let us know you’re there – we’re inside at dinner – you’re welcome to join us!)
• Thursday, April 16 … 1-6 p.m. *bring items inside church
• Friday, April 17 … 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. *bring items inside church

We will even accept donations during the event Saturday, April 18.

Please note: you are not donating items to White Rock Baptist Church. This is just the venue. There is no official charity or organization sponsoring this, so there will be no tax receipts. It’s just local people who want to give stuff away to those who need it. If you would rather receive a receipt for your donation, we suggest giving to other organizations: local thrift stores, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Clothes Helping Children, etc.

We have sent invitations to local organizations (LAPS schools, Self Help, community churches, LA Cares, etc.) to distribute to individuals and families who have been previously identified as having a need. Invitation holders will be allowed to “shop” for free. We will not turn anyone away, but for those who do not have an invitation, we are asking for a small donation in exchange for the merchandise they choose. All donations will go to LA Cares.
