YMCA News:

The Family YMCA resumed live fitness classes for its member today in conjunction with the governor’s early August health order that allows this at 25 percent of room capacity.

Wellness Director Emily Schmidt said that the Y’s ongoing virtual, and pre-recorded on-demand classes (at laymca.org) continue to be free to community and Y members, but that the live classes are only open to members.

Schmidt said last week Y staff solidified the new fitness schedules and cleaning protocols for live classes.

To ensure the safety of more vulnerable members, all Silver Sneakers, Stretching and Gentle Yoga classes will remain virtual, said Schmidt.

Y members interested in attending live classes should check in at the main Y, 1450 Iris Street, about 10 minutes before the class to get their temperature taken and pick up a pass for the class.

Schmidt said all classes will be held at the Y Express in Central Park Square, and that depending on weather and light, some classes will be held outdoors. Schmidt said people should dress for the potential of being outside, and that people may change clothes at the main Y only.

Participants should bring their own water bottles, and exercise/yoga mats. Schmidt said instructors will open doors 10 minutes before class and lock them 5 minutes after class begins. When class is indoors, the floor is marked to ensure adequate spacing. Schmidt said staff will be wiping down areas before and after class, and that water-bottle filling stations, and hand sanitation stations also will be available.
