YMCA News:
Lace up your running shoes and help The Family YMCA make history.
Registration is now open for the annual Firecracker 5K & Family Fun Run, taking place on Independence Day. This year’s goal is especially meaningful: The Family YMCA hopes to welcome 250 runners, walkers, and joggers in honor of America’s 250th birthday celebration.
Whether participants are seasoned runners chasing a personal best, families looking for a fun holiday tradition, or neighbors who simply want to enjoy a walk with friends, everyone is encouraged to join the celebration.
“America’s 250th birthday is a once-in-a-generation milestone,” CEO Chris Daniels said. “We’re inviting our community to celebrate together by getting active, connecting with neighbors, and helping us reach our goal of 250 participants.”
The Firecracker 5K has become a beloved Los Alamos tradition, bringing together people of all ages for a festive start to Independence Day. Participants can run, jog, walk, push strollers, or simply enjoy the community spirit that makes the event special.

The YMCA encourages participants to register early and invite friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors to help reach the 250-runner goal.
The celebration doesn’t end at the finish line.
Following the race, the community is invited to continue the festivities with a free family celebration featuring a children’s parade, flag ceremony, pancake breakfast, hot dogs, watermelon, family games, crafts, vendors, and activities for all ages at Central Park Square.
