Texas Earthquake Felt In Southeastern New Mexico Thursday

SANTA FE – Just before midnight Thursday Sept. 2, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred in Texas that was felt in southeastern New Mexico, including Carlsbad.

The Carlsbad Brine Well remediation project has extensive seismic monitoring systems that detected the activity; the Brine Well cavern pressure did not decline and remains stable.

The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (NMNRD) is monitoring the situation closely.
