From the Teresa Leger Fernandez  Campaign:

SANTA FE – Democratic nominee for New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District and former Vice Chair of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Teresa Leger Fernandez issued the following statement on the obelisk in the Santa Fe Plaza being torn down today:

“My campaign has always been about love and building a New Mexico for all. I know there is pain, but violence is never the answer,” Leger Fernandez said. “We must come together as a community and as New Mexicans to have conversations about how to honor our proud, imperfect history and our cultural preservation. We must approach these conversations with a shared respect for our diverse histories, traumas, and contributions.”

Leger Fernandez was appointed by President Barack Obama as vice chair of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in 2013, which advises the Administration and Congress on matters of historic and cultural preservation.
