EDD News:

TAOS — The annual New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference is coming to Taos this fall, event organizers announced Wednesday.

The in-person summit is scheduled for Oct. 5-7 at the Sagebrush Inn and Conference Center.

The Outdoor Economics Conference was created by non-profit Outdoor New Mexico and co-sponsored by the Outdoor Recreation Division of the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD).

This year’s event will feature leaders in government and outdoor industry, panel discussions, an outdoor gear expo, an outdoor-industry company Pitchfest, evening receptions and fun outdoor tours.

Conference registration, which is now open at the early bird rate of $100 per person, includes all events, meals and outdoor tours.

“We are proud of our recreation economy in New Mexico and know that events like these, which bring people together with a common purpose, will only serve to keep us at the forefront as a national industry leader,” Economic Development Director Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said. “Taos is the perfect spot to showcase this industry. Its natural beauty has always been undeniable, making it a top outdoor destination for visitors from all over the U.S. and abroad.”

“I’m extremely excited to have this year’s conference in Taos,” said Jeff Steinborn, executive director of Outdoor New Mexico. “Taos is world renowned for its beauty, outdoor recreation, art, and innovative sustainability initiatives – from clean energy to building practices. We will be featuring all of it and more at the 2022 conference.”

“The Outdoor Economics Conference is a crucial convening of outdoor leaders from all corners of New Mexico and across the country,” ORD director Axie Navas said. “It’s the perfect time for our community to gather and strategize around the big-picture opportunities and challenges of equitable outdoor access in the state. Taos, as an outdoor recreation leader, is the perfect host.”

“We are excited to host the 2022 Outdoor Economics Conference,” Taos Marketing Tourism Director Karina Armijo said. “In Taos, all roads lead to the outdoors. Whether one is inspired by the landscape, challenged by the world-class recreation, or enlightened by the historical and cultural assets of the environment, Taos offers a wealth of opportunities to grow the outdoor economy and allow visitors a unique experience that speaks to our values.”

Farmington hosted the Outdoor Economics Conference in 2021. More than 300 people attended the event to hear about successful economic development efforts within and outside of New Mexico connected to protected lands. The conference united leaders across the state interested in developing and enhancing opportunities to grow outdoor recreation economy.
