The Taos School of Music will present the 57th annual Chamber Music Festival this summer from June 16 to Aug. 4, to include 16 concerts of chamber music for strings and piano, performed by a distinguished faculty and 19 students chosen by international audition.
Returning faculty include Artistic Director and pianist Robert MacDonald, pianist Thomas Sauer, the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet, the Brentano String Quartet (Ensemble-in-Residence at Yale), the Shanghai Quartet along with new guest artist/violinist Ara Gregorian. The 19 string and piano students hail from many countries, and from the most distinguished music schools in the U.S., including Juilliard, the New England Conservatory of Music, Colbiurn, Curtis, Boston University, Indiana University/Bloomington, University of Illinois/Urbana, Northwestern, and Yale. They will reside and receive instruction during the day at the St. Bernard Hotel in Taos Ski Valley, where they will also perform free concerts at 8 p.m., June 22, July 6, July 20, and Aug. 3, as well as concerts at the Taos Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m., June 23, July 7, July 21, and Aug. 4, for $10. he other concerts, performed by the faculty, will be at the Taos Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m., June 16. June 30,, July 14, July 17, and July 28, and will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak,Haydn, Ives, Mozart, Penderecki, Ravel, Schubert, and R. Admission for these faculty concerts is $25/ $10 for children under 18, with season tickets available for only $100. In addition there will be three faculty concert previews at the Hotel St. Bernard June 27, July11, and July 25 at 8 p.m., no admission charge.
