TCMG News:
The Taos Chamber Music Group presents its annual Holiday Season Festival of two different programs in three performances with “The Classical Piano” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, and “Holiday Jeux” 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10., all at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos.
A Taos favorite who has been called a “super-virtuoso” by the NY Times, pianist Gleb Ivanov opens the weekend at 5:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 8 with solo piano music from the Classical period. Works include Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Waldstein Sonata,” Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Sonata in C Major Hob XVI:48” and a set of “Impromptus” by Franz Schubert.
Ivanov will also be featured in “Holiday Jeux” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 (new winter matinee). This program highlights the music of Ravel with TCMG founder and flutist Nancy Laupheimer joining Gleb for Ravel’s “Sonate Posthume” and Taos pianist Kim Bakkum joining him for “Ma mère l’Oye” (Mother Goose Suite). In between Ivanov will perform solo again in Ravel’s “Jeux d’eau.” Santa Fe musicians Margot Schwartz (violin) and Sally Guenther (cello) will join Ivanov for Antonín Dvořák’s “Piano Trio No. 1” in a festive conclusion to the weekend which has become a treasured Taos holiday- time tradition.
TCMG’s 31st Season continues with four more programs from January through May, 2024.
