Take a tour of Stonehenge and some of its relatives this Friday, June 14 at the Los Alamos Nature Center. Dave North and Akkana Peck will discuss what Stonehenge and similar monuments can — and can’t — tell us about ancient astronomy. This talk begins at 6 p.m. and is part of the Downtown Creative Crawl. The talk is free to attend, but audience members can call the nature center at 505-662-0460 to reserve their seats.
In addition to this talk, the community is invited to join the Creative Crawl by heading downtown for the Pride Festival, attending the opening reception of “MapMaker” at Fuller Lodge Art Center and taking a look at John Ramsay’s collection of historic maps in the Pajarito Room of Fuller Lodge, presented by the Los Alamos Historical Society. The evening will end at the Secret City Summer Concert at Ashley Pond Park. The public is also invited to visit the Los Alamos Nature Center from 3 to 4 p.m. to meet members of the critter team and see some of the critters up close.
In addition to Friday night’s talk, join the nature center at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15 to see the full-dome film “Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure.” This program immerses audiences into an unexplored world where colossal creatures ruled the waves. Meet up with a family of Dolichorhynchops as they swim through waters with prehistoric sharks and squids. This film is not recommended for children under age 6. The Billingual Montessori School generously provided funding to bring this show to the Los Alamos Nature Center!
Seating is limited for both of this talk and movie, so please call the nature center at 505.662.0460 or stop by to reserve your tickets. Admission for the talk is free, but the film is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Events in the planetarium are not recommended for children under age 4.
