A new beauty salon – with a twist – has come to town.

“The first salon that I worked at was right next to the beach,” said Susan Williams, a hairstylist originally from San Diego, Calif. “People came in wearing flip-flops and bathing suits. I got to head to the beach after lunch. It was an awesome job.”

Williams brings her casual and fun style to the newest salon in Los Alamos.

Styles N’ Smiles Beauty Salon opened last month at 991 Central Ave., in the space next to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The space was previously home to Haircuts By Elena and is now under new ownership.

Styles N’ Smiles also offers SpaWhite™ teeth whitening and stain removal treatments, haircuts for men, women and children, perms, color treatments, extensions, manicures, pedicures, facials and full body waxing.

Members of the new staff look forward to serving the clients of former owner Elena McAdams, who moved, and they also welcome new clients.

Williams has been cutting hair for 24 years. She is a third generation hairstylist.

“When I was growing up there was always someone getting a perm or color in the kitchen,” she said.

Williams has always been an entrepreneur.

She began running a horse breaking and training business when she was 14, and still has three horses at the stables.

Williams moved to Los Alamos in 2008 to get married.

Before joining Styles N’ Smiles, she cut hair at Studio 42.

Born in Los Alamos and now living in Española, Montaño is about to receive his Associates Degree in Barbery from Northern New Mexico College and is looking forward to working in Los Alamos.

“I’ve been in the hospitality business for years and feel that this is a natural fit because I love working with people,” he said.
