The Los Alamos Nature Center has a special planetarium show by Dr. Galen Gisler at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 where he will share stories from the total eclipse and point out objects visible in our night sky.
The full-dome film From Earth to the Univers e will play in the planetarium at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26-27
Dr. Galen Gisler worked with PEEC and high school students from Los Alamos to collect data during the Aug. 21 solar eclipse. His group and many others are working on the Citizen Continental-America Telescopic Eclipse Experiment, which is hoping to use the data to learn more about the Sun’s inner corona.
The Aug. 25 show will reveal preliminary information about the project’s success and his experience of the eclipse along the path of totality. He will also point out constellations and celestial objects visible in the night sky, a preview of what can be seen at the Pajarito Astronomer’s Dark Night program the following evening.
The weekend film From Earth to the Univers e will let attendees embark on an inspiring journey through our Universe. Our understanding of the fascinating night sky has come a long way from ancient myths and campfire stories. This full-dome film reveals the splendor of our Solar System, ventures beyond the Milky Way to the birthplace of stars, and shows the giant telescopes that allow scientists to look at what lies even farther away from Earth.
