The Stooges Brass Band from New Orleans plays at 7 p.m. today at Ashley Pond Park in downtown Los Alamos. They will play and the crowd will party.
This is going to be an amazing, high energy show from Treme. Those of you who dug the TV show “Treme” or have been to Mardi Gras or any of the almost weekly parades in N.O. know you’re in for an incredible night. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re probably still in for a great time, especially those of you who grew up listening to hip-hop or those who like “second line parading” and/or the Dirty Dozen Brass Band or the Rebirth Brass Band. Oh yeah, a lot of you have never heard anything like this, but fear not, this will be a gas!
This band is a highly regarded and elite brass band. They play an innovative blend of the traditional New Orleans brass band sound with contemporary jazz, hip-hop and funk. They’ve won the “Best Contemporary Brass Band Award” at the Big Easy Music Awards. They also won the award for being the “Red Bull Street Kings: Best Brass Band”. They’ve played the N.O. Jazz & Heritage Festival many times, the Bonaroo Festival, South By Southwest and High Sierra Music Festivals. They also played the Edinburgh Jazz Fest, the Durham Brass Fest in the UK and Nuits D’Afrique.
When not on the road, the Stooges Brass Band play a show every Thursday at the Hi Ho Lounge and almost every Sunday they play a parade in New Orleans. They tell that more than money, the SBB are in this business for the love of music and having fun performing.
The show is FREE and is presented by the sponsors of the Los Alamos County Los Alamos Summer Concert Series. The show is our portion of the LA ScienceFest weekend. The Stooges Brass Band members may not be scientists but they will show excellence in math when they count off the beat and keep it coming at you. Tonight we’ll also be honoring some of our favorite local businesses with a “Holiday Inn Express–LA Co-op Market–NM Consortium Night.”
Our show on Friday, July 24 will be with the band, Satisfaction: International Rolling Stones Show. The band is from Las Vegas, Nev and you’ll know the music.
Hope to see you at the concerts.
