New Mexico COVID-19 Sept. 16 Update: 882 New Cases, Totaling 243,962 With 13 New Deaths And 211,892 Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced 882 additional COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.
Los Alamos County reports one new case today bringing the total 638 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
This update includes 13 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
- 231 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 54 new cases in Chaves County
- 22 new cases in Cibola County
- 6 new

NMPED: School-based COVID-19 Infections Drop 37 Percent Amid New Protocols Across New Mexico

- Surveillance testing and enhanced safety practices seem to be working
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) reports today that the number of students and staff who were infectious with COVID-19 while on a public school campus dropped 37 percent last week, possibly due to new protocols to keep schools safe for in-person learning.
For the week ending Sept. 11, 504 students and staff members were reported infectious on campus compared to 806 the previous week.

FBI: Suspect Sought In Kidnapping Of Girl In Kirtland
FBI News:
The FBI and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a man suspected of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl in Kirtland.
The girl, who was reported missing Tuesday night, was found alive at a trading post in Red Valley, Ariz., at approximately 7:30-7:45 a.m., Wednesday.
The suspect is described as a Native American male in his 30s-40s, approximately 6′ tall, with short brown hair. He had no facial hair.
He may be driving a dark colored four-door pickup truck with a bed cover, silver rims, and a 4×4 emblem.

Los Alamos County’s Atomic City Transit will operate a detour on Route 3 (Canyon and Central) due to road construction work on Entrada Drive beginning Thursday, Sept. 16 until further notice.
The Route 3 detour will travel on Camino Entrada and bypass Entrada Drive bus stops #571 (by the Los Alamos Co-op) and #570 (by Holiday Inn Express), which will be closed during the detour.
