SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Treasurer’s Office, in collaboration with the University of New Mexico (UNM) and New Mexico State University (NMSU), will bring together state finance leaders, higher education institutions, and workforce development partners to address New Mexico’s growing need for skilled public finance professionals.
As New Mexico’s public assets continue to grow, the event will highlight efforts to build in-state education pipelines that prepare students for prestigious, public-service-driven careers in government finance, investing, auditing, and pension management.
The discussion will also focus on creating meaningful career pathways for New Mexico students to remain in-state, serve their communities, and help manage the state’s more than $160 billion in public funds.
By connecting higher education credentials to high-impact careers in public finance, this initiative aims to strengthen New Mexico’s workforce, reduce brain drain, and cultivate the next generation of homegrown financial leaders.
The State Treasurer’s ‘Cultivating the Next Wave of New Mexico’s Financial Leaders’ event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (with lunch served until 1 p.m.), Monday, April 20, 2026.
