State Traffic Report: March 22 Through April 2

NMDOT News:

NMDOT asks all motorists to reduce speed, obey all posted traffic signs, use caution, and watch for heavy equipment and construction personnel in all work zones.

NOTE: Conditions are subject to change without notice. Double fines for speeding in work zones in effect.

Interstate:

I-40, mile marker 8.200 – 131.00, west of Gallup to To’hajiilee

J-H Supply (Contractor) has resumed installation of new metal guardrail. Replacement and upgrade is necessary to bring roadside barriers to new standards. The contractor will complete all installations in Cibola County on Wednesday, March 24 and begin in McKinley County. Drivers can expect single lane closures. Speed is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021. During backups please use both lanes and take turns to merge. Please allow extra time and expect delays.

I-40, mile marker 40.000 – 105.500, east of Ciniza Refinery to east of Cubero

J-H Supply (Contractor) is scheduled to begin installation of new metal guardrail in late March. Replacement and upgrade is necessary to bring roadside barriers to new standards.  

I-40, mile marker 17.100 – 40.000, west of Gallup to east of Ciniza Refinery

Valley Fence Company (Contractor) resumed installation of new metal guardrail. Replacement and upgrade is necessary to bring roadside barriers to new standards. Single lane closures are in effect at McGaffey and West Gallup Interchanges. Speed is reduced to 55mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. During backups please use both lanes and take turns to merge. Please allow extra time and expect delays.

I-40, mile marker 111.043 – 117.000, west of Laguna to Mesita

Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (Contractor) has begun roadway reconstruction, ramp rehabilitation and bridge rehabilitation. The contractor is currently constructing the median crossover detours. Both east and westbound passing lanes are closed. A 12’ width restriction is in place. Speed is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  During backups please use both lanes and take turns to merge.  Please allow extra time and expect delays.

I-40, mile marker 37.700 – 40.300, (Phase III) Ciniza Refinery, east of Gallup

FNF Construction Inc. (Contractor) has begun roadway reconstruction and work on extending concrete box culverts. The contractor is building the median crossover detours and will begin milling and filling the eastbound shoulders. East and westbound passing lanes are closed. Speed is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021. During backups please use both lanes and take turns to merge. Please allow extra time and expect delays.   

I-40, mile marker 57.393 – 60.461, between Prewitt and Thoreau

FNF Construction Inc. (Contractor) has begun roadway reconstruction. The contractor is building the median crossover detours. Both east and westbound passing lanes are closed. Speed is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021. During backups please use both lanes and take turns to merge. Please allow extra time and expect delays. 

I-40, mile marker 3.250 – 3.380, Manuelito Rest Area

Meridian Contracting, Inc. (Contractor) has begun replacement of the sewer system. The rest area will remain closed during all work. All eastbound traffic may use facilities in Gallup at Exits 16, 20, 22 and 26.  All work is expected to be complete in summer 2021.

I-40, mile marker 44, Coolidge Interchange

El Terrero Construction, LLC (Contractor) will begin roadway & ramp reconstruction and bridge replacement in late April. Currently there are no impacts to traffic. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021. 

US Roadways: 

US 491, mile marker 40.500 – 42.000, Naschitti

Bixby Electric, Inc. (Contractor) will continue work on lighting until project is complete. Currently there are no impacts to traffic. All work is expected to be complete in early 2021.

US 491, mile marker 61.760 – 68.106, Newcomb to Sanostee

Fisher Sand & Gravel (Contractor) has begun roadway rehabilitation. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto the southbound passing lane. The contractor will work on the northbound lanes. Speed is reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Lane closures and traffic control shall remain in place 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All work is expected to be complete in summer 2021.

US 491/Carbon Coal Road Intersection, City of Gallup

Fisher Sand & Gravel (Contractor) will begin roadway reconstruction & rehabilitation and lighting & signalization March 22. The contractor will begin construction activities on the new roadway between South Chino Loop and Mentmore Rd. until late October. NO PUBLIC ACCESS to the construction area.   The contractor’s work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in summer 2022.

US 550, mile marker 63.930 – 64.309, Village of Cuba

El Terrero Construction, LLC (Contractor) will begin bridge rehabilitation and roadway rehabilitation. All northbound lanes are closed.  All traffic will be diverted onto the southbound lanes while bridge work is conducted on the northbound lanes. Traffic will be switched once all work is completed on the northbound bridge. Speed is reduced through the work zone. All work is expected to be complete in spring 2021.

State Roadways: 

NM 4, mile marker 18.500 – 19.000, north of Jemez Springs

Structures Inc. (Contractor) will resume bridge replacement and roadway reconstruction. The bridge was replaced last year, however work will continue on the MSE walls and railings. Currently there are no impacts to traffic. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021.

NM 12, mile marker 6.900 – 7.100, Village of Reserve

Meridian Contracting, Inc. (Contractor) will construct a driveway turnout and install new guardrail. There are no impacts to traffic at this time. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. All work is expected to be complete in May 2021.

NM 53, mile marker 82.250 – 85.900, Exit 85 at Grants

El Terrero Construction, LLC (Contractor) will begin Bridge Rehabilitation and Roadway Rehabilitation work in late April. Currently there are no impacts to traffic. The contractor’s work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in late 2021.
