State Police To Conduct Proactive Operation In Española

NMSP News:

ESPAÑOLA — Beginning today through March 20, the New Mexico State Police will conduct a proactive operation in Española to suppress crime in Española and the surrounding communities of Rio Arriba County, Chama and Taos.

Over the past months, New Mexico State Police have met with concerned citizens and business owners during such events as the Stronger Together event back in October of 2019 to identify and address the needs and concerns of the community.

Twenty New Mexico State Police Officers will be assigned to this two-week operation, as well as additional State Police Investigations Bureau Agents and other State Police specialty teams and units as needed.

The focus of this operation is to build relationships with community members and deter and prevent criminal activity in the area.

New Mexico State Police has conducted successful operations like this in Albuquerque and Belen where dozens of citizens and business owners have thanked the New Mexico State Police for committing time and resources to deter crime in their neighborhoods.

This operation supports the Department of Public Safety’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens, especially those directly impacted by crime.

“The citizens of Northern New Mexico have spoken, and we are listening,” NMSP Chief Tim Johnson said. “Collaborative operations such as this are a proven method for effectively deterring and preventing crime.”

New Mexico State Police will be working in collaboration with officers and deputies from the Española Police Department, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico Corrections Adult Probation and Parole, and the New Mexico Corrections Security Threat Intelligence Unit as well as the First Judicial District Court.
