NMSP News:
SOCORRO — On Nov. 19, 2025, at approximately 9:38 p.m., the Socorro Police Department (SPD) responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot near College Avenue and Leroy Place, including reports that one person had been struck.
Officers arrived and located Quentin Sisneros, 22, lying outside a black Chrysler sedan with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers rendered medical aid until EMS transported him to Socorro General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
SPD secured the scene and requested the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau (NMSP/IB) to assume the case.
Through the investigation, NMSP agents learned that a separate altercation had occurred in the parking lot shortly before the fatal shooting.
During that incident, the suspect, Anthony Alvarado, 21, exited a vehicle armed with an AR-15-style rifle and confronted the juvenile relative of a man who had previously been romantically involved with Alvarado’s girlfriend, pointing the weapon at the juvenile.
As Alvarado was engaged in this confrontation with the juvenile, a black Chrysler sedan driven by Sisneros entered the parking lot. Believing the vehicle belonged to the man involved with his girlfriend, Alvarado fired multiple rounds into the sedan at close range, striking Sisneros.
Investigators do not believe Sisneros was the individual involved in the prior relationship with Alvarado’s girlfriend, indicating this may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Following the shooting, Alvarado fled the area on foot. Individuals who were present during the incident later returned to provide statements to law enforcement.
A warrant has been issued for Alvarado on the following charges:
- First-degree murder;
- Shooting at or from a motor vehicle (resulting in injury);
- Abuse of a child (2 counts);
- Aggravated assault;
- Shooting at or from a motor vehicle (no injury); and
- Negligent use of a deadly weapon.
NMSP is actively searching for Alvarado, who remains at large; he is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NMSP at 505.841.9256.
If sighted, community members should call 911 and avoid approaching him.
