State Film Office: ‘Capitol Barbie’ Filming In New Mexico

NMFO News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Film Office has announced that the television pilot, “Capitol Barbie”, produced by Outlast Entertainment, LLC, a New Mexico based production company, will film in Albuquerque this month.

Directed and produced by Riley Del Rey (“Thought I Lost You” Sci-Fi Western pilot), the production is employing approximately 40 New Mexico crew members, 20 principal New Mexico actors and 40 New Mexico background talent.

“Capitol Barbie” is a mini-series featuring native New Mexican Elese Jones. Jones has been a stand-in on many union shows, including “Deputy,” but will lead the cast as Dolly in her first starring role. Jeanette Aguilar Harris, a life-long New Mexican who trained off-Broadway and was a series regular on CBS’ “Under Suspicion,” will play Melissa Lopez-Gaffney, an egoistic politician gunning to become the first Latina president.

“Capitol Barbie” is a mean girls style political thriller about aspiring Latinos in Washington, D.C. Dolly is an intern who moves across the country to pursue her dreams of working on Capitol Hill. She ruffles the feathers of a politician vying to become the first Latina president, who then tries to kick her off the hill. Dolly begins to realize that this hill … isn’t going to be easy to climb.

“As we begin an election year, we’ve created a show that will engage the political philosophies of our nationwide audiences to inspire debate. ‘Capitol Barbie’ also is a showcase of 100 percent New Mexico cast and crew,” Director/Producer Riley Del Rey said.

It will shoot at Amy Biehl High School and the University of New Mexico’s West Wing.
