State Canvassing Board Certifies CD-1 Special Election

SANTA FE — New Mexico’s State Canvassing Board met Tuesday in Santa Fe and unanimously certified the official results of the recent special election in Congressional District 1 (CD-1). 

Democrat Melanie Stansbury was elected in the June 1 special election to fill the seat vacated by Deb Haaland who was appointed Secretary of the Interior. 

The official, certified results for the CD-1 special election can be viewed on the Secretary of State’s website.

“All elections in New Mexico undergo rigorous certification procedures, including an independent audit, to ensure the accuracy of the results,” Secretary Toulouse Oliver said. “The State Canvassing Board is the final step in the certification process and I’m pleased to announce that we had another successful meeting of the Board today. Voters should have the highest level of confidence in these official election results and in the conduct of the recent special election.”

The three members of the State Canvassing Board – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver and State Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Vigil – all attended Tuesday’s meeting. The Board voted unanimously to certify the results of the 2021 Congressional District 1 special election.

During the meeting, the Board signed the certificate of canvass and certificate of election that make the results of the special election official.
