The annual Los Alamos Letter Carrier and Boy Scouts Spring Food Drive is Saturday, May 11.
This community food drive is jointly conducted by the Los Alamos Letter Carriers Union (NALC-4112), the Northern New Mexico District of the Boy Scouts of America, and LA Cares with the support of the National Letter Carriers Union, the US Postal Service, the Knights of Columbus, Smith’s Food & Drug Stores, and many individual volunteers.
The drive supports those in need in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties through regular distributions by LA Cares in Los Alamos and the San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen in Espanola.
Residents should place non-perishable donations of food and supplies near their mailboxes before 10 a.m. Saturday. Cub Scouts will also be collecting donations 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at both Smith’s Food & Drug locations.
Suggested items for donation include: 100 percent fruit juice in one-half gallon containers, canned chicken, low-sugar cereals, tomato products or spaghetti sauce, hearty-style soups, sugar, flour, cooking oil, canned vegetables, rice, powdered and canned milk, paper products, laundry detergent and personal care products.
No diapers or baby products are needed at this time. Do not include glass or perishable food.
