Time Out Pizzaria was literally made for kids. Trisha Sanchez was looking for a new challenge now that her children were in school and she and her husband Omar noticed there were few places for kids and families to go in White Rock and Los Alamos.
“We wanted to build a place where children were safe and could have fun,” Sanchez said.
Omar had fond memories of his favorite childhood restaurant in Roswell, which featured local memorabilia and had a real sense of community.
He wanted to create such a meeting spot in Los Alamos.
“In 2007, we said, you know what, let’s do this!” Sanchez said. “I wanted a business where my kids could hang out after school.”
Omar and Trisha opened the White Rock location on N.M. 4, and soon customers who lived on the Hill were clamoring for a Los Alamos restaurant.
When Omar retired from the State Police in 2013, he had more time to help, and the couple opened a new restaurant in Los Alamos, next door to the Bradbury Science Museum in 2014.
They moved to their current location at 157 Central Park Square two years ago this January.
Trisha and Omar regretfully closed the White Rock location this year.
“Two restaurants was one restaurant too many,” Sanchez said.
One of the secrets of Time Out’s success has been the meeting rooms, where every kind of gathering, from business meetings to children’s birthday parties are held. Then came COVID-19.
“It’s been rough,” Sanchez said. “We rely on holiday parties and special events to see us through the rest of the year. We can seat customers inside at 25 percent capacity, but the meeting rooms don’t provide for social distancing.”
The game room and the salad bar also had to be closed and with many LANL employees working from home, their business has really suffered.
Trisha and Omar were determined to keep providing service for their customers and jobs for their staff.
“I have a fantastic staff and we’ve kept all six of them employed,” Sanchez said. “Our customers are fantastic, too!”
Time Out serves inside and at outdoor tables at their restaurant, and their full menu is available for takeout or delivery.
Their menu is extensive and goes far beyond pizza and wings. The specialty sandwiches and gourmet pizzas have devoted followers.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday; and 3-7 p.m. Saturday. Call them to place an order at 505.662.7261.

“If people continue to support us and the other local small businesses, we’ll all get through this together!” Sanchez said.
Editor’s note: Local businesses need the support of the Los Alamos community now more than ever!
