SFNF: Coyote Ranger District Reports Rash Of Fires

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are concerned about a rash of fires that posed a potential threat to homes in the wildland urban interface (WUI).

The cause of the fires is under investigation.

Since Oct. 31, firefighters have responded to three fires on the Coyote District:

  • The 96 Fire near NM State Road 96, which occurred in a pile of woody debris from previous fuels reduction work;
  • The 76 Fire off of Forest Road 76, which directly threatened homes on the east side of Gallina; and
  • The Wood Fire off of Forest Road 103, which with the

Chamber Celebrates CrossFit LA Renovation Today!




The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the renovation at the CrossFit Los Alamos gym with a ribbon cutting 1-3 p.m. today with the actual ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. at 278 A DP Road.

CrossFit Los Alamos is entering its 8th year as a New Mexico CrossFit affiliate. The business, also known as Mesa Elite Fitness, has been operating for 10 years in Los Alamos. Originally in Central Park Square, the business has continued to grow by leaps and bounds.


CrossFit Los Alamos (CFLA) operates in a 5,000 sq. ft. industrial space and has expanded four times


SFNF Offices Closed Thanksgiving Day Nov. 28

SFNF News:
SANTA FE All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
Forest offices will resume regular business hours Friday, Nov. 29.
And this is just a reminder that cut-your-own Christmas tree permits go on sale Monday, Nov. 25. As part of the national Every Kid Outdoors initiative, fourth-graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass are entitled to a free Christmas tree permit.

U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich Introduces Bill To Establish Bandelier National Park And Preserve

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, introduced legislation today to establish Bandelier National Park and Preserve.

Senator Heinrich’s legislation seeks to protect in statute a strong relationship between the National Park Service and pueblos whose history and culture lies in Bandelier. The bill would establish a tribal commission, which would provide guidance for park management that reflects traditional and historical knowledge

Los Alamos Hockey Wins Season Opener

Both teams play in the Rio Grande High School Hockey League, a league made up of six teams from New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. The Topper team dominated both games winning 8-3 for Friday night’s game and 9-3 for the Saturday morning game. The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Swimming and Diving teams finished second to Albuquerque Academy in both the girls and boys competition Nov. 16 at the 38th Annual Barney Relays at Albuquerque Academy.
The girls team scores were Albuquerque Academy 176, Los Alamos 134, Cleveland 110, Hope Christian 104, Rio Rancho 56, St Pius 50, Sandia Prep 26, Cottonwood Classical 10.
The boys team scores were Albuquerque Academy 180, Los Alamos 134, Cleveland 86, Hope Christian 66, Rio Rancho 60, St Pius 58, Sandia

NMDOT: Plan Ahead For Sporting Events

BERNALILLO The New Mexico Department of Transportation is working with the New Mexico Athletic Association to mitigate the effects of expected traffic delays for students and parents traveling to upcoming high school athletic events in Bernalillo and Rio Rancho.
A new phase of a U.S. 550 project began Oct. 28, and the Department of Transportation asks motorists traveling to sporting events to plan accordingly. In order to arrive on time and lesson delays upon leaving the games, NMDOT encourages everyone attending


Topper Girls Volleyball Ends Season At State Playoffs

Topper Volleyball ends season at the State Championship Playoffs. The number 7 seed Toppers won the opening round match against the number 10 seed Pojoaque Elkettes 3-12. The second match was against the number 2 seed Roswell Lady Rockets, which the Toppers lost 0-3. The third game was against the number 8 seed Silver Lady Colts and the Toppers lost 3-0 ,which closed out their season. The Topper Volleyball had a great season finishing 15-9 over all and sweeping district play 9-0. Here Natalie Gallegos spikes the ball in the Pojoaque match. Santa Fe Ski Team Invites Public To Participate In Annual Ski Swap And Alpine Race Camp Dec. 6-8

SANTA FE — It’s time to gear up for another season on the slopes! 
The Santa Fe Ski Team is hosting their annual Ski Swap Fundraiser Nov. 15-16 at the Genoveva Chavez  Community Center (GCCC) in Santa Fe.


The Santa Fe Ski team invites the public to participate in the event by dropping off ski-related items to sell at the swap between 12-4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15.
“Our annual ski swap is a great chance for us to participate in the community. There’s a lot of amazing deals available for both new and experienced skiers,” states Harvey Monroe,
