Special Blue Supermoon Lunar Eclipse Show Sunday

At 2 p.m. Sunday at the Los Alamos Nature Center, Rick Wallace is presenting a special planetarium show about an upcoming, rare astronomical event: a Blue Supermoon Lunar Eclipse.
 
Join in a discussion about what causes solar and lunar eclipses with a focus on last years’ solar eclipse and the upcoming total lunar eclipse visible Wednesday, Jan. 31. Learn about the mythology and folklore surrounding eclipses and science behind them. This show is organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Education Center (PEEC).
 
Rick Wallace has a Ph.D. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from U.C. Santa Cruz (Lick Observatory), with concentration in numerical calculations of stellar explosions (Novae, Supernovae, Gamma Ray Bursts), and nuclear fusion. He has worked as a staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 30 years, working on physics simulations, security of Russian nuclear material after the fall of the USSR, technical management, and international safeguards (including 3 years at the IAEA in Vienna, Austria, looking for States that might not be complying with their arms control treaty agreements). His hobbies include nature photography and Astronomy education.

The Los Alamos Nature Center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as well as 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The nature center is open late Tuesdays, until 8 p.m., and closed Thursdays for regular maintenance.
