MESA VERDE COUNTRY News:

CORTEZ, Colo. — Colorado is known for its winter adventure, but if you haven’t checked out Mesa Verde Country in the Southwest corner of the state, you’re missing out. During the snowy season, this area of the Four Corners region boasts moderate temperatures that provide the perfect backdrop for winter adventure.

Experiences to enjoy in Mesa Verde Country during the wintertime:

Fat Biking

Southwest Colorado is one of the most popular mountain biking destinations in the country, and there’s no reason to give up the sport when the snow flies thanks to fat biking. Bring your own fat bike or rent one at Kokopelli Bike & Board in Cortez. Phil’s World trail system boasts 60 miles of trails, as well as spectacular views of the Sleeping Ute, La Plata, and is a good choice for novice or experienced riders.

Skiing, Snowshoeing & Snowmobiling

There are three downhill ski areas near Mesa Verde Country – Telluride, Hesperus and Purgatory – making Mesa Verde Country a great base camp option for downhill adventure. Off-slope adventures include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

Hiking & Horseback Riding

Boasting warmer temperatures than most mountain areas, many of the trails in Mesa Verde Country are free of snow after a little sunshine – perfect for hiking and exploring the countless ancient sites located throughout the region. While exploring the ancient sites, visitors should keep their eyes peeled for wild horse herds in Mesa Verde National Park, majestic against the backdrop of snow. Speaking of horses, there are a number of stables that offer trail riding experiences on horseback. Get more info on booking here: https://bit.ly/3UNkQlQ.

The course sits at 6,200 feet with spectacular views of Mesa Verde, the La Plata Mountains and the Sleeping Ute Mountain.

Après-Activity, the Mesa Verde Country Way

Nothing caps off a perfect day of winter play in Mesa Verde quite like a cold beer at one of the area’s local breweries.  Dolores River Brewery, Main Street Brewery, Coyote J. Brewing Company, Mancos Brewing Company and WildEdge Brewery are all stellar options. Fenceline Cider | Outliers Cellars and EsoTerra Cider also feature ciders made from local apples. Wine lovers will want to check out Sutcliffe Vineyards or Yellow Car Country Wines. There are also some amazing eateries to fuel up for your next adventure. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3A4rbS3
