Staff Report

Construction for the future Smith’s Marketplace is underway, and with it comes preparation of the building site, which requires the infill of dirt so the store’s foundation may be laid.

Completion of the Trinity Site Revitalization Project in the vacant property on Trinity Drive, across the street from Mari Mac Plaza in Los Alamos is one of the County’s top economic goals, intended to promote economic diversity, increase jobs, and bring additional shopping opportunities and amenities to the Los Alamos community.

The Los Alamos Public Schools will benefit from income derived from the lease on the land, which it can then use for its operating budgets.

Santa Clara Construction (SCC) is handling much of the initial site preparation process and in readying the Smith’s Marketplace site, has hauled more than 5,500 tons of dirt without accident or injury.

Smith’s Marketplace is scheduled to open to the public in May.
