Los Alamos may be widely known as a scientific town but it has a whole other side … an artistic side.

Whatever artistic medium residents use to express themselves, Village Arts has the supplies for the job. Owner Ken Nebel has operated the framing and art supply business for six years. He purchased the business from former resident Marilyn Warren. With new ownership came a new location. The business moved from Central Park Square to 216 DP Road.

“Village Arts has the pleasure of sharing our knowledge and cultivating the creativity of so many talented and amazing people in the region by really connecting with their artistic needs through custom framing and art supplies,” Nebel said. “We get to help make the world a little brighter every day by providing tools for people to make something, to express themselves. We have the honor of collaborating with our patrons to preserve and display their most prized memories and inspirations.”

Nebel says the absolutely most inspiring part of working at Village Art is his customers.

“We are so lucky to be entrusted with the projects and plans that we see, and we really enjoy the opportunity for a chance to listen,” he said. We’re proud to constantly surprise people with the variety of what we carry.”

Nebel was born at Los Alamos Medical Center. “I guess you could say I didn’t have much choice coming to Los Alamos but I’m sure glad I landed here,” he said.

Nebel and his team bring a lot of expertise to the business. He describes his seven employees at Village Arts as “the best kind of family around.” Tami Gonzales has worked for Village Arts for more than 20 years and “is an absolute treasure and full of knowledge and experience.”

Village Arts is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit http://villageartsframing.com.
