When Mary Kay started her business in 1963, it was in a small store in Dallas, Texas. According to marykay.com, she sold five products.

Things have certainly changed; now Mary Kay is a global cosmetic brand that employs millions of consultants. One of those consultants is Laura Parker of Los Alamos.

Parker is a long-time Mary Kay beauty consultant. She started selling the cosmetics in September 1983.

“I began selling Mary Kay while I was in college because I recognized it was a fun and easy way to make money while going to school full time,” she said.

“I have continued because the reorder business is wonderful and cosmetics is one of three recession proof businesses. This is the most woman-friendly business, that has wonderful perks.”

“The best thing about Mary Kay cosmetics is that the products are of the highest quality,. They are 100 percent guaranteed and they work for all skin types,” Parker said. “We have products for all ages from young teens who love to play with color to those who want to look years younger.”

Parker added being a Mary Kay consultant also allows her to provide for her family and keep her priorities in check, which are: God, family, and career. Parker is not only a long-time Mary Kay employee, she is also a long-time Los Alamos resident.

She moved to Los Alamos in 1987. She said she grew up in Denver and met her husband, Bill, at a cousin’s wedding. After getting married, Parker also started her other career as a teacher at Los Alamos Public Schools. This is her 29th year teaching.

As a Mary Kay consultant, Parker said she caries a full inventory for pick up, delivery or mailing. Parker can be reached at 505.699.4205 or e-mail her at
