Nov. 26 is Small Business Saturday and an opportunity for the community to show its support by visiting and shopping at local businesses.

The Fuller Lodge Art Center, nestled in the heart of downtown Los Alamos, is a multi-faceted hub for art and artists in the community.

The Art Center was formed in 1977 after branching off from the Los Alamos Arts Council. In 2010, local resident Ken Nebel took over directorship and helped shape the Art Center into what it is today. Located in a wing of historic Fuller Lodge, FLAC embraces its history but also looks forward to the future.

Representing more than 100 local and regional artists in the Gallery Gift Shop, FLAC provides a venue for artists who sell their handmade work. They have a main gallery space where they host nine themed shows per year and a Portal Gallery for smaller solo shows. In all of these spaces throughout the Art Center, the public is welcomed at no cost to come through and find inspiration in the pieces on display.

“While we strive to inspire the artists within all of you, we also want to reach out and teach the gift of art to our future generations,” Nebel said. “Therefore, we offer Wednesday afternoon art classes for 1st through 6th graders, Monday morning art sessions for 4 to 6 year olds, and 7 weeks of Summer Art Camp. For adults, we offer Spring and Fall classes ranging from Watercolor to Welding, Clay to Carving, Glass to Graphite and more. There also are ongoing art groups such as Life Drawing, Photo Club, Clay Club, etc. And for shoppers and artists alike, we host two annual Arts & Crafts Fairs as well.”

This Friday, FLAC is unveiling its 2016 Affordable Arts show! Thirty artists were juried in to show off their unique, handcrafted gift items to Art Center visitors over the holidays. This show, which takes place Nov. 25 and Jan. 7, transforms the gallery into a Winter Wonderland!

“Be sure to join us for our GREEN Friday opening Nov. 25 and Small Business Saturday Nov. 26,” Nebel said. “Also, Dec. 3, we’ll have our Holiday Open House in conjunction with the Los Alamos Light Parade where we’ll be open until 6 p.m. and serving cookies and cider all day long.

Whether you’re buying presents for loved ones for the holidays, decorating your homes, thanking your teachers, saying “goodbye” to a co-worker, giving a house warming gift, or just need a card, the Fuller Lodge Art Center can fulfill all of your shopping list needs.

Stop by for some retail therapy anytime during business hours, which are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. FLAC also will be open noon to 4 p.m. Sundays, Nov.  27 through Dec. 18.

FLAC is at 2132 Central Ave. For more information, visit fullerlodgeartcenter.com, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter or call 505.662.1635.
