June English has been making local women look younger and more beautiful for 16 years.

Trained as a medical aesthetician, English is able to offer a wide array of skin care treatments and products. She said her business,Professional Skin Care Choices, has grown every year, mostly by word of mouth.

“I have a good reputation, which is important,” she said. “People appreciate having skin care services here in town and I’ve had some clients for years. They tell other people.”

When English was closed during the early part of the pandemic, she began receiving calls from clients, anxious for her to reopen. When some restrictions were lifted, she began opening by appointment.

“I felt I had to get back to my clients as soon as I could,” English said. “I schedule my clients an hour apart so they don’t run into each other in the lobby. I sanitize completely after each client, including clean sheets. I always wear gloves and a mask. I take everyone’s temperature when they arrive. My clients have been great. They always wear their masks. So far, no one has gotten sick.”

English is hoping the stricter protocols instituted this week by the governor’s office will be lifted soon so she can go back to seeing clients. In the meantime, she offers delivery of skin care products to her clients’ homes. Things have been tough during the pandemic, English said. While the office is closed, people can help by purchasing gift certificates and professional skin care products.

The newest service offered at Professional Skin Care Choices is microchanneling. Microchanneling stimulates the body’s natural ability to generate new healthy skin. The treatment uses tiny needles to create channels for stem cell serum. Most people don’t find the treatment painful, but English can numb the skin if they do, she said. English was trained in the procedure by the manufacturer of her equipment.

“Clients like it because the treatment doesn’t involve harsh chemicals and there is no down time after treatment. It is especially effective on acne and surgical scarring. It also helps remove wrinkles, stretch marks and sun damage. It also firms and tones the skin.”

The new treatment is popular with her clients, English said.

English also offers chemical peels. She formulates unique blends that allow for a comfortable treatment. Peels are not the same as facials, English said.

“They are corrective in the way they speed up the exfoliation process, encouraging cell turnover,” she said. “The superficial chemical peels I perform won’t leave your face red for days. Some clients even schedule treatments during their lunch break.”

Another treatment is microdermabrasion, which uses crystals to remove dead skin. It’s a good option for those who don’t want to use chemicals on their skin, she said.

And yes, you can still get a facial when you need to be pampered. English also offers facial waxing. Botox treatments by Dr. Haley Richey can be scheduled through the office.

With things so uncertain during the pandemic, those wishing to learn more, order products and gift certificates or schedule an appointment should call English at 505.507.0124. Visit online at myskincarechoices.com.

Professional Skin Care Choices is in downtown Los Alamos at 1247 Central Ave. Ste. 207, upstairs from the Los Alamos Daily Post. When the pandemic is over, English will return to normal hours Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and every other Saturday by appointment only.
