Shear Delight At Bosque Redondo Memorial Fiber Fair May 3

Bosque Redondo Memorial’s Fiber Fair shows visitors how wool is processed from sheep to fabric. Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild will offer live demonstrations and hands-on activities using sheared wool from the site’s flock of Navajo-Churro sheep 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Fort Sumner Historic Site.

The day’s festivities include sheep shearing, ranger talks, workshops, and food trucks provided by the Friends of Bosque Redondo Memorial. The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum and the Office of Archaeological Studies will also be onsite leading demonstrations.

The Fiber Fair is a fun and educational day out for the family. Guests can also see the permanent exhibition, “Bosque Redondo: A Place of Suffering, A Place of Survival,” to learn more about the history of the site. A new outdoor interpretive trail is available for guests to explore and take a self-guided audio tour. Admission is $7 for adults and free to children 16 and younger, Diné, Ndé, NM foster families, NM disabled veterans, Friends of Bosque Redondo Memorial, and MNMF members.
