SFNF: Free Use Firewood Permits Available

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest has been removing hazardous trees from the Hermit’s Peak and Calf Canyon fire area. The trees are being cut down and decked to be made available for free firewood in Johnsons Mesa, Capulin and Walker Flats.

To get free firewood, picking-up a Free Use Firewood Permit at four locations:

  • Forest Supervisor’s Office, 11 Forest Lane, Santa Fe, NM 87508 505.438.5300 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. M-F)
  • Pecos Ranger Station 32 S Main St., Pecos NM 87552 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. M-F)
  • Las Vegas 1926 N. 7th St., Las Vegas NM 87701 (8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. M-F)
  • Mora County Court 1 Courthouse Dr., Mora, NM 87732 (from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fridays Only) 

“So far, we’ve issued 200 cords of wood specific to HPCC hazard trees. We expect to issue another 800 cords for a total of 1,000 cords,” Las Vegas District Ranger Amina Sena said.
