SANTA FE – Santa Fe Community College Water Pressure Update: Due to the impacts of low water pressure arising from Santa Fe County construction projects near the campus, the SFCC Main Campus (at 6401 Richards Ave.) will remain closed on Thursday, Aug. 31.
The lower-than-normal water pressure has compromised the college’s fire suppression system, which prohibits the public or employees from coming onto campus. A fully functional fire suppression system is a requirement for the college to be open. County officials report that work to “reenergize the high-pressure waterline” is underway. County crews, however, need additional time to complete the project.
SFCC will notify the campus community with additional information should Santa Fe County need to extend this delay beyond Thursday. The closure includes all of SFCC’s Main Campus facilities – including but not limited to the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center, Kids Campus, and La Familia Medical Center. (The Santa Fe Higher Education Center, located in Santa Fe’s Midtown District, will remain open.) Online college services and online classes are available.
SFCC Faculty and Staff who are able to work remotely are asked to perform work duties to the best of their abilities. Classes that can continue online should do so. Please direct class- or work-related questions to your instructor or direct supervisor.
No SFCC employees or members of the public will be allowed onto campus until the situation is resolved.
“The College appreciates everyone’s patience while the situation is resolved,” SFCC President Becky Rowley, Ph.D., said. “We realize the closure impacts our students and community members who rely on SFCC’s services. The safety of our students and the public remains our top priority.”
