SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College announces that it will host a Virtual Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15.
While graduates won’t be on campus, they will be celebrated as their names and awards are announced during a live stream on YouTube at https://youtu.be/tUtbBgCn4aA and on SFCVTV-16 on Comcast.
The virtual ceremony will salute graduates who completed either in the Spring semester or Summer term.
“I’m excited and proud to recognize the Spring 2021 graduating class,” said President Becky Rowley, Ph.D.
These students really persisted through the worst of the pandemic. Most of our students have spent the past year taking classes online. Some of our graduates needed to follow strict safety protocols to get hands-on skills and professional guidance such as our welding students and those in the health care field.
Seeking an academic credential is always challenging and these students overcame the many obstacles they faced during the pandemic with the support of our dedicated faculty and staff who’ve supported these students on their educational journey.
“We’re thrilled that a special friend of SFCC – Chef José Andrés, the world-famous chef and humanitarian of World Central Kitchen – will give an inspiring congratulatory message to our graduates during the virtual ceremony.”
Last summer, SFCC partnered with World Central Kitchen to prepare and distribute 50,000 meals to feed students and their families, as well as local communities. The partnership was developed by Robert Egger, a Cerrillos resident serving as a food security advisor to Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber. He is a longtime friend and colleague of Chef Andrés, as well as a founding Board member of World Central Kitchen. The initiative was supported by SFCC Foundation.
In addition to the live broadcast, Santa Fe Community Television (SFCTV-16 on Comcast) will re-broadcast the Virtual Commencement Ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 18; 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19; and 6 p.m. Saturday May 22.
SFCC 2020 Spring/Summer Graduation Fast Facts
Note: This data is derived from those students who’ve applied to graduate either this Spring or at the end of the Summer term. 332 SFCC graduates are eligible to receive 357 awards. 25 students will receive more than one award. Of those awards: 212 are for certificates and 145 are for associate degrees.
- 65.1 percent are from Santa Fe; 8.4 percent from Albuquerque, 3 percent from Espanola, 3 percent from Los Alamos and 2.4 percent from Rio Rancho. The remaining graduates are from 32 communities around the state (ranging from Alcalde to White Rock) with the highest concentration from Northern New Mexico.
- Graduates range in age from 16 to 70.
- More than half (55.4 percent) self-identify as Latino/Hispanic, and 3.3 percent identify themselves as American Indian or Alaska Native.
- 7 graduates identify themselves as military veterans, military spouses or dependents of military veterans.
- Two certificates are being given for the first time at the college this year: Certificate in Building Science and Construction Technologies – Adobe (2) and Certificate in Practical Nursing (1).
- The highest number of awards are in: Early Childhood Development Certificate (23), Nursing A.A.S (20), Elementary Education Certificate (18), Secondary Education Certificate (18) and Business Administration A.A. (11).
- The associate degrees to be awarded include Associate in Arts (60) and Associate in Science (15) and Associate in Applied Science (70).
