Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ contractor began work last week to replace a sewer line at the far east end of Rim Road.
The existing steel sewer line is visible at the mesa’s edge and drops down into Pueblo Canyon. Crews will remove this line and install a new line underground that will extend to a manhole at Graduation Canyon.
Work is primarily located at the project footprint at the top of the mesa at the end of Rim Road and the bottom of Graduation Canyon where the directional drilling will take place. At times work may occur on adjacent county land at East Park near the Mesa Trail, such as laying pipe to then be transported to the canyon bottom.
The new sewer line will improve the efficiency of the sewer system in the neighborhood it serves. Additionally, the new line will be invisible to the public.
DPU anticipates that the work will take no more than 60 days to complete. Residents on Rim Road may see trucks and construction equipment entering and leaving the construction site, as well as hear noise from boring equipment to place the new line underground. There will be no interruption in utility services.
