K of C News:

Over seventeen years the annual Knights of Columbus Scholarship Golf Tournament has attracted sponsors and golfers from Los Alamos and around Northern New Mexico.

Funds raised from the event provide scholarships to graduating Los Alamos High School seniors. All graduating LAHS students can apply for the scholarship.

During the 17-year period of the tournament, the Knights have awarded an estimated $130,000 inscholarship money to graduating high school seniors. Donations to the event are tax deductible because of the organizations 501 c3 status. Sponsors are issued a letter for tax purposes.

The event is full of surprises and great prizes. Here is a partial list:

  • Golf for four people at Las Companas and The Santa Fe Country Club and  two rounds of golf at Towa;
  • Lessons at the Los Alamos Golf Course;
  • Lift passes from Pajarito Ski Area; and
  • Prizes for closest to the pin on par 3’s and longest drives.

This year 12 LAHS students received scholarships from the Knights of Columbus by demonstrating their involvement in community programs, scholastic achievement and involvement in sports and activities at LAHS.

Scholarship recipients include: Shelby Chavez, Deanna Gutierrez, Luisa Romero, Justine Zimmerly, Mary Brug, Kim Vo, Isaac Dunwoody, Joanna O’Neill, Camille Rousculp, Queanna Lopez, Mackenzie Mork and Ashley Roybal
