LAPS News:

Seven Los Alamos High School DECA students recently attended the 2025 DECA International Career
Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida, with six competing in various events.

Junior Alyssa Sun qualified as a top 5 finalist in her event, Marketing Communications Series, out of 210 global competitors. She was the only finalist from New Mexico. Senior Eva Gerber, juniors August Ovaska and Alyssa Sun, and freshman Silas Iverson will receive Certificates of Proficiency for high scores on their written exams.

Senior Zane Kretz and juniors Rocco Del Mauro and Jasmine Heft also attended the competition, joining over 26,000 students from across the United States and other countries at the four-day event.

The six competitors qualified to attend the international competition by ranking in the top four positions in their chosen category at the state level. Junior Rocco Del Mauro was selected to attend the DECA Leadership Academy.

“Attending the DECA International Career Development conference is an amazing opportunity for students to not only compete in their chosen topic, but also to meet and network with other students from around the globe who share their same career interests. Students attending the leadership academies develop and polish leadership skills they may take into their careers” Dr. Sharon Hurley commented, Los Alamos High School DECA Advisor.

Dr. Hurley continued, “Simply qualifying to attend the conference and represent our State at this event is a huge accomplishment. Our students begin preparing for the competitions in early fall and continue to prepare throughout April for ICDC.”

“We are grateful to Los Alamos Public Schools for their continued support of our DECA program. In August when school resumes, we will begin preparing for the 2026 International Career Development conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia.”
